Welcome to the wonderful world of the Rowan Tree Hostel, snugly nestled on the banks of the river Fergus in the bustling medieval town of Ennis - a true hub of traditional Irishness!
The surrounding county itself can boast over 2000 forts, 130 megalithic tombs, 190 castles, 3 cathedrals and a people so steeped in history and tradition that if a leprechaun ran past them they wouldn’t even pause to blink! Co. Clare is considered by all on the island as the home of the ‘little people’, who, legend has it, arrived by flying ships thousands of years before humans ever set foot on the isle, but alas have since migrated downwards into the vast depths of the Burren cave system to isolate themselves from us humans and our rainbow-chasing ideals. The Burren, fondly referred to as ‘Mother Ireland's Stretch Marks’ by locals, is a glaciokarstic plateau of limestone rock stretching over 200km and is only one of mother nature's inspired creations that dot this magnificent county.
The Rowan Tree Hostel, open a mere 5 months and already a hostelworld favourite mixes the old with the new in perfect harmony. Originally a 1740 townhouse, the Rowan Tree Hostel boasts the high ceilings and rustic stairways attributed to this time but with all the mod cons today's traveller relies on, plus some fan-fecking-tastic extras like FREE internet, Irish dancing classes and a FREE brekkie!!But that’s not all!!! Oh no … decorated with fashionable murals depicting everything from the awe-inspiring Cliffs of Moher to a good aul music session and only just days ago opening its very own café bar, serving everything from evening tapas to Irish scones and coffee to uisce beatha, the water of life itself (none other than good aul Irish whiskey) – the Rowan Tree has it all! The future of hostelling is already here don’t you think?! |
